Term 4 Week 2 - 2023
From the Principal
Greetings to our St. Francis families!
We're wrapping up our second week, and I hope you've all had a rewarding few days. With each passing day, our calendar seems to get busier!
A special thank you goes to Mrs. Bates and Mr. Lane, who came all the way from Townsville to support our school during staff absences. Being away from their families has been challenging, and we deeply appreciate their dedication.
Diving into Swimming
Our classes took the plunge into swimming sessions this week. The cooling waters have been a delightful change. To the parents who reached out with concerns, thank you for your vigilance. As a reminder, swimming is a school activity, and all school rules apply. For those attending, please ensure students use the change rooms. Remember, we're in a public space adjacent to a caravan park and skate park. Furthermore, a email to our Prep and Year 1 parents has gone out to you regarding swimming this term.
FACE Meeting Reminder
This afternoon marks our second last FACE meeting for the year. Starting at 3:00 pm, I encourage as many as possible to attend. It's heartwarming to see so many of our families, especially those new to St. Francis, actively participating.
Exciting Staff News
We're thrilled to share that in 2024, we'll be looking to add an additional teacher to our ranks. Rest assured, none of our current teaching staff are leaving. The new addition aims to further bolster the dedicated team, including Mrs. Sharn Greenaway. Interviews for this position are scheduled for next week.
Important Dates
Wednesday, 29th November 2023 - Year-end liturgy with Fr. Emmanuel. This is also our chance to bid farewell to departing students, families, and staff.
Friday, 24th November - Right of Passage at the DEC. Further details to be shared soon.
Wednesday, 1st November 2023 - Prep Open night. This year, we're giving a holistic view, showcasing the entire school and illustrating the journey from Prep to Year 6.
Thank you for your ongoing support and engagement, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
God Bless,
Scott Murray

Prep/1 Happenings
We have been learning all about the forces push and pull in science this week. P/1 embarked on a journey with plasticine to see which force they used the most to manipulate the plasticine into different forms.
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In Science, we have been discussing forces, such as push and pull. We started with a discussion on different ways we could move a marble out of a circle. We then classified those ideas as contact and non-contact forces. 2/3/4 then raided the sports shed to discuss different ways we use contact forces during play.

Year 5/6 Happenings
It has been a privilege for me to work with the students in Year 5 & 6 these last 2 weeks in Miss Erikson’s class in her absence. We have investigated the properties of solids, liquids and gases and classified them according to their observable properties. Maths has seen us engaging with graphs, fractions, percentages and budgeting. We have been exploring the need for wisdom as consumers when purchasing goods, looking at the influx of new means of enabling people to buy immediately, things that they can maybe not afford at the time with platforms such as Afterpay. We have also considered early Christian communities and the concept of the term “Saint” as it applies to specific individuals and collectively in regards to the body of believers.

Dear Parents/Carers and Friends
Week 2 started with a splash as our school swimming lessons kicked off. Your children may come home feeling a bit more tired and hungry due to their active time in the pool. It's important to ensure they get adequate rest, nutritious meals and snacks to refuel, and remain well-hydrated during these times.
We have recently made changes to our Breakfast Club program. Breakfast Club will now only be operating on Thursday mornings.
In the near future, we will be introducing a Homework Club for year 5 & 6 students. More details will be available soon.
This Friday 13th October, a small group of our Mini Vinnie’s students will be visiting the Daycare centre for a buddy session.
We also have a Disco happening next Friday 20th October. This is open to all primary aged students and younger siblings.
Zooper Doopers will also be available this Friday 13th October at 2:45pm - 3:00pm for $1.00.
Warm regards,
Telisa Howie
