Term 4 Week 1 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear St Francis Hughenden School Community,
A welcome to Term 4! I trust that the holiday break has rejuvenated everyone. With a bustling schedule this term, I urge everyone to mark their calendars with the important dates of the upcoming events, when looking at the What’s On. As we wrap up this week, we are thankful to have celebrated St Francis Feast Day and the commendable efforts of our educators on World Teachers Day.
Next week marks the beginning of our term's swimming lessons. Please ensure you have acknowledged the communication sent out about this both via email and through hard copies. It's paramount that swimming forms are approved in advance given the nature of this activity.
Given the start to the term with a public holiday, a number of students have not been in correct uniform. Our students are expected to be in formal uniforms daily, except for Wednesdays and Fridays. On these two days, sport uniforms should be worn. Let’s ensure adherence to avoid those pesky uniform breach notices!
This Saturday, the ICPA Colour Run will light up the Lake! We're proud of our participating students and eagerly anticipate a day filled with vibrant hues. Our school staff will also join in, assisting and sprinkling some colourful fun. We hope to catch a glimpse of many familiar faces. For ticket details or additional information, do check the Hughenden ICPA's Facebook page.
Our goal is to enhance our lines of communication. Recent feedback suggests that our multiple methods of reaching out might be a tad overwhelming for some. Thus, we're considering streamlining our communication channels. To achieve this, we value your insights. Please spare a few moments to complete our survey by **Friday, 13th October 2023**.

Prep/1 Happenings
We have been learning all about positional language in Mathematics this week. Students practised using terminology such as forwards, backwards, behind, between, first and last. We used our handy Role M grid mat to help us. P/1 had to give and follow specific directions to get to the dinosaur egg placed on the mat.
Miss Brown,

In Mathematics, we have been discussing money! We have gone right back to basics and discussed the values of each Australian coin and note. We have also looked into the different symbols on each of the coins and notes, such as Dame Mary Gilmore or the lyrebird. We have made these awesome posters for Spotlight. To see all our finished posters, please join us for our school liturgy on Friday.

Bonjour Families!
I trust you all had a refreshing holiday and cherished moments spent with family and friends.
As many of you may know, I am currently enjoying an extended holiday in France
In my absence, the class is in the capable hands of Mr. Rodney Lane to guide our wonderful 5/6 class. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and I'm confident that the students will benefit greatly from his tutelage.
Additionally, come week 3, we'll be welcoming back Miss Sutton from JCU. She will be completing her placement with us for the week. Her past stint was greatly appreciated by the students, and we're looking forward to the insights she brings this time around.
Though I'm away, my thoughts are very much with the school community. I eagerly anticipate rejoining you all in week 3. Until then, stay safe, keep learning, and remember to enjoy every moment.
Miss Eriksen,
SFSH Chaplain
