Term 3 Week 9 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers, and the St Francis Hughenden Community,
We are already at the end of week 9! The impending school holidays are on the horizon, and I'm sure many of you have exciting plans. I eagerly await hearing all about them when the students return.
A few important updates and reminders as we approach the close of Term 3:
End of Term:
Just a reminder, the last day of school for Term 3 will be Friday, 15th September 2023. Classes will conclude at 11:30 am. As such, we won't be having our regular school assembly. Instead, we will have a whole-school end of Term liturgy in the library on Thursday (14/09/2023) afternoon at 2:15pm, all are welcome to join.
5-Year Renewal Plan & Verification:
Next week, we'll be welcoming the verification team from Townsville. This visit is part of our 5-year renewal plan, assessing our progress over the last half-decade and charting the way forward. We're confident this process will help strengthen our school community and are excited to host the team.
Year 5 & 6 Camp:
Our Year 5 & 6 students recently headed to Mungalli Falls, supervised by Miss Eriksen and Miss Margy. Initial communications suggest they're having a fantastic time. Special thanks to both teachers, particularly Miss Eriksen for her leadership in organising our kids for this joint camp, and a big thank you to Mrs Keys and the team at St Colemans, Home Hill who have once again put on a great camp for our students.
FACE Meeting:
We'll be hosting our FACE meeting next week, on Thursday, 14th September at 3:00 pm in the Library. The primary agenda will be a review of the FETE, discussing the positives, areas for improvement, and revealing the profits made. Your feedback is invaluable; we encourage everyone to attend.
Farewell to Miss Nicole Hansen:
It's with mixed emotions that we bid farewell to Miss Nicole Hansen and her family. Her dedication and support, especially during our FETE preparations, were unparalleled. We express our heartfelt gratitude and send best wishes for their next adventure. To quote an old blessing, "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
Thank you all for your continuous support and commitment to our school community. Here's to a productive final week of Term 3!
God Bless,
Scott Murray
A/Principal
Our Yr 5/6 Class is in Spotlight this week at our Assembly. If you have the time please come along to hear about all the wonderful things the class has achieved!
Student Of The Week
P/1 -Bonnie Freier
2/3/4 - Josh Nunn
5/6 - Beau Middleton
Happy 7th Birthday Flynn Angus! We hope you had a wonderful day!
Prep/1 Happenings
This week in P/1 the Prep students have been learning all about equal sharing and equal groups. We used our Role M beads to help us do this by making sure we had the same amount of red beads on our strings that we did yellow beads. Students were given different numbers to split into equal groups using these beads.
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
For Science, 2/3/4 have been looking at how heat changes different materials. We have looked at the behaviour of heat at a molecular level, such as the fast movement of molecules for heat and the slow movement of molecules for cool. We then conducted an experiment to see how a chip packet would react when put into an oven. Check out the results!

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have had a wonderful week at Mungalli Falls for our Year 5 and 6 school camp. The students got to make butter at the Mungalli falls dairy factory, go abseiling, swim under Milla Milla Falls and much more!

SFSH Chaplain
Dear Parents/Carers and Friends,
As we near the end of the term with numerous assessments in progress, let's remember that assessments, while significant, are opportunities for our students to showcase their learning. As the school chaplain, I encourage you to support your children during this time, offering reassurance, balance, and perspective.
Your role as parents and carers in providing support, understanding, and belief in your children's abilities is crucial. As the term concludes, let's look forward to a well-deserved break for rest and rejuvenation, allowing our students to return with renewed energy and enthusiasm for the next term.
Blessings to you all.
Sincerely,
Telisa Howie School Chapin
