Term 2 Week 8 - 2023
From the Principal
I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and high spirits.
First and foremost, I would like to extend another congratulations to all of our talented students who participated in the Hughenden Show. It was truly inspiring to see the creativity and hard work displayed by our students. I am proud of each and every one of them, and applaud those who received well-deserved placings. Your dedication and passion are demonstrated through your achievements.
I would also like to express my gratitude to our dedicated staff members who selflessly assisted in setting up and packing up the student's works for the show. Their support and commitment to our students' endeavours are truly commendable. Their efforts behind the scenes were invaluable in making the event a success.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the Small Schools Athletics Carnival is just around the corner. It will be held on Monday, 12th June 2023. We have already emailed a detailed letter to all households, which includes the program, events, and tuckshop menu for the day. I kindly request that you review this information and ensure that all necessary arrangements are made. As a friendly reminder, tuckshop orders were due today, so please make sure you have submitted your orders on time.
As we approach the end of Term 2, we have a busy schedule ahead. Here are some important dates to remember:
- Friday, 23rd June 2023: This will be our last day of school for Term 2. Please note that the school day will conclude at 11:30am. It will be a great opportunity for students to rest and recharge before the upcoming break.
- Friday, 23rd June 2023: On this afternoon, report cards will be released to parents and carers. These reports provide valuable insights into your child's academic progress and overall development. We encourage you to take the time to review the report and discuss it with your child.
Looking ahead to Term 3, we will be organising Parent-Teacher Interviews. These interviews offer an excellent opportunity for parents, carers, and teachers to discuss your child's progress, set goals, and collaborate on strategies to support their ongoing development. We will provide more information regarding the schedule and booking process at the beginning of the term.
As always, we encourage open and regular communication between parents, carers, and the school. If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We value your partnership and appreciate your involvement in your child's education.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead.

Prep/1 Happenings
In Prep/1 this week we have been looking at Astounding Ants in Science. We conducted an investigation as to whether ants preferred honey or cheese. The students chose a location outside to leave a plate of cheese and honey, we checked the plates after 1 hour and discovered that honey was the winner!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
2/3/4 have been working hard in Maths to learn about measurement, particularly in Length! We have been using our rulers to measure different things around the rooms, such as rubbers, books or even our shoes!
Miss Allison,

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been busy creating experiments in Science to show how light can be reflected and refracted. We have come up with our own investigatable question and planned a range of different experiments to match these. Our experiments are testing a range of things such as how far can light reflect off a mirror and how can light travel around corners? We have had some great scientists in ⅚ this week!

Chaplain
Dear School Community, We're thrilled to announce that Mini Vinnies is now in full swing, led by our compassionate and dedicated students who are making a positive impact on our community through acts of kindness and service. Additionally, we kindly remind you to join us for the Chaplaincy Breakfast every Tuesday and Thursday morning. It's a great place to join with friends and enjoy a nutritious breakfast before starting the school day. As we approach the end of the term, it's crucial for our students to prioritise rest and maintain a nutritious diet to support their well-being and academic performance. Let's encourage them to take care of themselves, ensuring they have the energy and focus needed to finish the term strong. Warm Wishes, Telisa Howie School Chaplain thowie@sfsh.catholic.edu.au |

Annual St Francis & Sacred Heart Parish FETE Update
Dear Parents and Carers of St. Francis Catholic School,
Warm greetings to all of you! As we approach the 2023 Annual School Fete, we are excited to share some important updates and seek your valuable support and assistance to make this event a resounding success.
This year, we find ourselves facing a unique challenge as we have been unable to secure rides for the fete. The rising costs of living, fuel prices, and various other factors have led to a significant increase in the prices of rides, making it unfeasible for us to include them in our event. However, we believe that challenges present opportunities for creativity, and we have risen to the occasion by devising alternative plans to ensure a fun-filled and memorable fete experience for everyone.
Our focus this year will be on creating engaging stalls and entertainment options that showcase the talent, creativity, and unity of our school community. To make this vision a reality, we humbly request the active involvement and support of our Parents, Carers, Parish Members, and the wider community. We truly believe that together, we can create a remarkable and enjoyable event for our beloved school.
In light of this, we kindly ask you to consider donating your time on the night of the fete. We will be setting up an online form where individuals can sign up to volunteer for one-hour slots. This approach allows everyone to have ample time to relish the fete while actively participating in its success by assisting the school.
Volunteer opportunities will vary and encompass a wide range of activities, including stall management, ticket sales, food and beverage services, children's games, and overall event coordination. By contributing your time and skills, you will not only support the school but also become an integral part of the fete experience, fostering a sense of togetherness and community spirit.
We understand that everyone has unique commitments and schedules, but we genuinely appreciate any amount of time you can spare. Whether it's an hour or more, your involvement will significantly contribute to the overall success of our Annual Fete and the positive experiences it creates for our students, families, and friends.
Additionally, we encourage you to spread the word among friends, family members, and colleagues who may be interested in joining our cause. The more individuals we have on board, the stronger our fete will be, and the greater impact we can make as a school community.
As we prepare for this exciting event, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continuous support and dedication to St. Francis Catholic School. We firmly believe that together, we can overcome any challenge and create something extraordinary. Let us come together, celebrate our unity, and make the 2023 Annual School Fete an unforgettable experience for all.
Thank you for your attention and generosity. We eagerly look forward to your positive response and seeing you at the fete. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Warm regards,
Scott Murray
