Term 2 Week 6 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and the wider St Francis Catholic School Community,
Greetings from Townsville! I hope this newsletter finds you well and filled with joy. As we approach the exciting events of the coming week, I wanted to provide you with some important updates and information.
Firstly, I would like to inform you that I will be in and out of Hughenden over the next week for conferences. During my absences, we are fortunate to have Mr Michael Colahan joining our school from Townsville. Mr Colahan has previously been in Hughenden in a similar role, please introduce yourself and say hello to him.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who attended our first Cocktail Party evening. It was a pleasure to catch up with many of you and receive your positive feedback. The evening was great, and we are excited to build upon this in the future. I would also like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff, parents, and volunteers who contributed their time and effort to make the event memorable.
Looking ahead, I want to remind you that next week will be a short week, concluding on Thursday, 1st June 2023. This early finish is due to the 140th Hughenden Show, an event our students and staff have been eagerly preparing for. We are proud of their work, and we look forward to seeing their creations proudly displayed in the pavilion. While I won't be able to attend on Friday due to travel back from Townsville, I am excited to be part of my first Hughenden Show on Saturday. I look forward to seeing and connecting with our wonderful families and the vibrant community that surrounds us.
In closing, I wish you all a blessed and happy weekend. May you enjoy this time with your loved ones, cherishing the precious moments and creating beautiful memories together. As always, thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to the St Francis Catholic School community.
God Bless,
Scott Murray

Prep/1 Happenings
We have been learning all about minibeasts and where to find them! We went on a playground safari to find insects around our school. The students have been learning to describe the physical features that insects have and what they use them for.
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
We love games in 2/3/4! But not just any games, games that help us learn! We have been using our Chromebooks in our classroom to play fun games that develop our numeracy and literacy skills, such as Prodigy and Reading Eggspress.

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been busy working hard in literacy groups. Literacy groups help us to further our knowledge and understanding of English. This week, we practised our handwriting for the show, furthered our understanding of the sound ee, practised our reading and comprehension as well as extended our understanding of sizzling starts.

Tuckshop News
I am thrilled to introduce myself as Telisa Howie, the new School Chaplain at St. Francis School. As a current school officer at St. Francis School, I am filled with enthusiasm as I take on this expanded role to foster stronger connections with our students and provide them with the support they need. First and foremost, I want to assure you that I am here to be a listening ear for our students. I firmly believe that providing a safe and supportive space for them to express their thoughts and concerns is crucial for their overall well-being. Whether they need someone to talk to, seek guidance, or simply share their joys and challenges, I am dedicated to being present and attentive to their needs. In addition, I am thrilled to announce the launch of our breakfast club, starting every Tuesday and Thursday morning. This initiative aims to ensure that our students kickstart their day with a nourishing meal and a positive atmosphere. It not only fosters healthy habits but also creates an opportunity for them to connect with their peers and staff members in a relaxed setting. Furthermore, I am committed to helping our students become more actively engaged in the community. By organising community service projects and encouraging participation in local events, we aim to instill in them a sense of responsibility, empathy, and civic pride. I am truly honored to be your new school chaplain, and I look forward to working closely with each of you to create an inclusive and supportive environment for our students to thrive. Warm regards, Telisa Howie |
Due to taking on the role of Chaplain, I am unable to regularly assist in the operation of tuckshop on a Friday Morning. I am seeking some volunteers to assist/cover for the lovely ladies currently operating the tuckshop on Friday mornings. Your support will not only lighten their workload but also provide an opportunity to contribute to the school community in a meaningful way. Even just one hour of your time would make a difference! If you are interested in lending a hand, please reach out to me directly.
Warm Regards,
Telisa Howie
