Term 2 Week 2 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and the wider St Francis Catholic School Community,
Welcome to the end of Week 2, Term 2! It has been a busy start to the term, and I hope that all families and students had a restful and enjoyable break over the Easter School Holidays.
I would like to extend my thanks to the parents and carers of those students who attended the 2023 ANZAC Day service. It was fantastic to see so many of our students turn out for this significant event. As a reminder, the School ANZAC Day liturgy will take place on Friday, 28th April 2023, and all members of our community are welcome to attend. Following the liturgy, light refreshments, tea, and coffee will be served.
This weekend marks the start of Hughenden's Outback Skies Festival, and I am thrilled to be participating in the raft race with some others from around Hughenden. I have heard from our school students at lunch times that we have a few teams entering the kids category, and they are keeping their plans and designs a closely guarded secret. I wish them all the best and look forward to seeing how they perform on the day. Be sure to come down and cheer the students on as they battle it out for the top prize.
I am also pleased to announce that tuckshop will resume this Friday, 28th April 2023. From Week 6 onwards, the school's new online ordering system will be the only way to order, so please start using this and ask any questions if needed. Please note that ordering through the online system shuts at 1:00 pm the Thursday before each week.
I would like to remind parents that school finishes at 2:45 pm each day. If you are going to be running late on the day, please notify the school if you have not already advised and organised this through the front office.
Finally, mark your calendars for our upcoming events: On Tuesday, the 9th May, 2023, we have our Under 8's Day with the theme Superhero. We look forward to seeing all the super humans there on the day.
Then, on Friday, 19th May 2023, F.A.C.E. and the School Community will be organising a new fundraiser this year. This event will be a Cocktail Evening in the Quadrangle under the lights. If you would like to be a part of this and assist, can you please email myself, or alternatively sfsh@tsv.catholic.edu.au. We look forward to working with the parent and carer body of the school.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you all at the upcoming events.
God Bless,
Scott Murray

Prep/1 Happenings
Last term P/1 started their science assessment which was all about materials and their physical properties. They had to design an item/object or creature then they had to make this using all the techniques we have been talking about throughout this unit. The students finally got to show these off in class this week and explain their creations to the class. Here are some of our fantastic creations!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
Class 2/3/4 recently had a HASS lesson about the Burke and Wills expedition, where they embarked on a mock expedition around the classroom. As they reached different locations around the room, students encountered various challenges that required them to show their understanding of the text. We also had a great discussion on how the expedition connects to our community’s history.

Year 5/6 Happenings
In 5/6 we have been enjoying reading the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. So much so, our classroom has turned into Willy Wonka’s factory. While reading, we have been looking at the different ways in which Roald Dahl uses language features to describe his characters. He uses these to make the book more descriptive and interesting. We have even been trying to write our own language features to describe a character in the book.
