Term 1 Week 8: 2023
From the Principal
Good Morning Parents, Carers and Community members,
As always, it's a pleasure to share with you the latest news and updates from St Francis School in Hughenden. We hope this newsletter finds you well and in good spirits.
End of Term Liturgy
We will be holding our end of Term Liturgy on Monday, 27th March, this will be held during Holy Week. Holy Week marks the last week of the Christian season of Lent – the week leading up to Easter.
Road Safety & Helmets:
With the end of the school holidays fast approaching, we would like to remind parents and carers about the importance of road safety. Please make sure to educate your child on the road rules, such as looking both ways before crossing the road and walking on the footpath. Additionally, if your child rides a bike or scooter to school, please make sure they wear a helmet to keep them safe.
St Patrick's Day:
This Friday, 17th March 2023 is St Patrick's Day. Students are encouraged to wear Green free dress that is Sun Safe and School appropriate. Students attending in Green on the day are asked to bring a Gold Coin donation to support Caritas.
A reminder that the F.A.C.E. and Sacred Heart Parish are also working together to put on a St Patrick’s Day disco for all Primary aged students from Prep - Year 6. Further details can be found on the School Facebook Page.
Harmony Day - Tuesday, 21st March 2023:
Harmony Day falls on Tuesday, March 21st, and we couldn’t be more excited!
We invite everyone to come dressed in traditional dress or in the colour orange, to show our support for Harmony Day. Let’s make this a day of joy and friendship, and celebrate the diversity that makes our school so special.
Parent Teacher Interviews:
Please note that St. Francis has Parent-Teacher Interviews scheduled for March 20th and 21st. To book an appointment, please refer to the instructions and closing date on COMPASS.
Students completing NAPLAN:
Our year 3 and 5 students have been taking part in the NAPLAN tests, which assesses their literacy and numeracy skills. We are proud of our students' efforts and look forward to seeing their results later in the year. So far the students have completed three of the four tests with only Numeracy to go.
ECSI Survey & Competition:
We are excited that we will are participating in the ECSI (Enhancing Catholic School Identity) survey this year. This survey will help us gauge how we are performing in terms of our Catholic identity and culture, as well as identify areas for improvement. We encourage parents, carers and community members to participate in the survey when it becomes available.
Additionally, we are running a competition for those Parents, Carers and Community members who complete the Survey. Please look at COMPASS and Facebook regarding the details and way to complete the survey, as well as engaging in the competition.
As always, thank you for your continued support of St Francis School, and we wish you a safe and happy weekend.
God Bless,
Scott Murray,
A/Principal

Prep/1 Happenings
In Science this term we have been learning all about materials and their physical properties. We did an experiment this week using playdough! We used different types of playdough (new playdough, 1 day left out playdough and 1 week left out playdough) and changed them using bending, stretching, squashing and rolling. We then tracked which playdough was the hardest to move for each change. Spoiler, 1 week old playdough is very hard to move.

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In HASS, we have started learning about Civics and Citizenship. We had a class vote on a variety of questions, like “Who in the class would most likely become Prime Minister?”. We also discussed what Donkey Votes are, and how we can make decisions fairly through voting.
Miss Allison,
sallison1@sfsh.catholic.edu.au
Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been busy this week in the 5/6 classroom completing lots of different tasks. In English, we reviewed the genres of narrative and persuasive. We created posters to show what we need to include in our writing. We have used these posters to help us in writing our narratives. Using the writing process, we have been working on editing our narratives to improve them.
