Term 1 Week 7: 2023
From the Principal
Good Morning Parents, Carers and Community members,
Welcome to the Week 7 edition of the St Francis Catholic, Hughenden School Newsletter!
This past week has been a busy one for our students and staff here at St Francis Catholic School. Firstly, yesterday we celebrated International Women’s Day. This is a day to celebrate and honour the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. This is a special day that we celebrate each year and it was great to see everyone taking part.
We also have some important dates coming up over the next few weeks. Our Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st March. Bookings can be made online through COMPASS.
As mentioned earlier, NAPLAN has come in earlier this year. NAPLAN testing will take place next week from Wednesday, 15th to Friday, 18th March 2023, with a catch up day on Monday, 20th March 2023.
We will also be having a F.A.C.E. and Parish Disco on Friday, 17th March 2023. Please refer to the posts and posters that are circulating for details, or alternatively the poster at the bottom of this.
As you would have seen through the correspondence, School Photos are next term and will be taken on Wednesday, 24th May 2023. Please ensure you have completed the necessary online forms by the cut off date of Tuesday, 23rd May 2023.
We hope you have a great week and we look forward to seeing all our students back on Monday.
Scott Murray,
A/Principal

Prep/1 Happenings
In Math’s this week the Prep students have been focusing on the number 6! We have looked at the word, the numeral and groups of 6. This was done in their special 123 Me books. Year 1 students have moved onto addition, they worked with 2 dice and had to roll out their addition sums then write these in their books.

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In 2/3/4, we have been practicing our prayer writing. We have learned how to write a variety of prayers using the you-who-do-through structure. This week, the students were excited to write detailed prayers using the correct structure to add to our prayer jar. Prayers are selected at random from the jar to be read at Friday's liturgy.

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been exploring animal adaptations in science this term. This week, we focused on the different types of beaks that birds have. We explored how different birds have different beaks depending on the types of food that they eat. The students then made their own bird beaks to see which is the most effective at collecting food.
