Term 1 Week 6: 2023
From the Principal
Good Morning Parents, Carers and Community members.
It is hard to believe that already, we are at the end of Week 6. It feels like only yesterday that I was walking into the school for the first time in Week 1 to meet and greet everyone.
It is great to see that all of our students and families are still engaging with the school, even when we all start to become tired towards the end of Term. It’s a time where we know we are over half way and can see the finish line ahead, just over the horizon. I must commend the students, parents and community members for still going strong, helping out and supporting one another.
This is what I cherish about small towns and the community that goes with them. Even when we are busy and tired ourselves, we still lend a hand where we can to help our fellow parents, peers and colleagues. It is a true testament to what it means to be a part of such a great community.
Today and Tomorrow, we have the North West Rugby League Trials here in Hughenden. This will see approximately 70 families descend on the town, for these trials over the next two days. We will also have four of our very own students participating in this; Bryce, Blaze, Cade and Beau. I wish all these boys the best of luck at these trials.
I would also like to take the time to thank the parent volunteers of F.A.C.E. and, volunteers of the Sacred Hearth Parish for running the Canteen down at the trials over the next couple of days. Without the support of families, parents, carers and parish members, canteens and group collaboration like this would not happen.
As you may have seen, this Friday, we will not be having our Assembly. Instead, we will have Assembly the following week (Friday, 10th March 2023), where we will award those recipients of this week with their awards as well.
This week, you will have seen a number of new and familiar faces around the school. We have Mr Lane and Mrs Chaplain visiting our School as relief teachers, whilst we have a number of staff away for Professional Development. I thank these staff for travelling out here to support our school during this time.
Finally, next week, I will be away from Monday, 6th - Wednesday 8th March. During this time, I will be away for the first Principal's Conference of 2023. These conferences happen every term, throughout the year. On completion of this on Wednesday, I will drive back to be back at school Thursday morning.
I wish you all the best for a safe and happy weekend with your families and friends.
God Bless,
Scott Murray,
A/Principal

Prep/1 Happenings
Another busy week in P/1. We love our rotational activities because it gives us the opportunity to target all different styles of learning. This week we practised our number writing as well as our handwriting. The year 1 students were also 2-digit number detectives!

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
There are some Maths legends in 2/3/4! Every morning, we grab out our trusty Think Mentals textbooks, where we practise our mental computation and learn a variety of mathematical strategies. Students only have 6 minutes to complete as many questions as they can!

Year 5/6 Happenings
We were very lucky this week to have Mrs Livingston join us for Religion. With Mrs Livingston’s guidance we participated in a guided meditation and class discussion. These allowed us to understand the importance and significance of prayer particularly the Hail Mary.

Guidos Gossip
The modern-day family with school-aged children has a very busy schedule. This can make it hard to sit down to homemade meals every day when there is access to so much quick and fast pre-packaged, processed food. However, it is still important to teach our kids the importance of eating a balanced diet and healthy food habits. Diet and nutrition are crucial to our child’s development and learning abilities.
There are many benefits to incorporating a healthy diet and good nutrition. It can stabilize your child’s energy, improve their mood and maintain a healthy weight. Not only will it improve their general well-being, but it does have a positive impact on their mental health, and works as a prevention for anxiety and depression.
The Food & Mood centre is a multi-disciplinary team studying the ways in which what we eat influences our brain, mood, and mental health. This centre is unique in the world: it is the only centre specifically focusing on Nutritional Psychiatry research.

Road Safety
Children must be wearing a suitably fitted helmet when riding their bicycle.
Although it is not a legal requirement to wear a helmet when riding a scooter/wheeled devices, it is strongly recommended.
For more information regarding road safety please follow the below link to Queensland Transport.
As a school we do our best to encourage road safety with the children.
Over the last few weeks we have had reports about children from our school not practicing safety on our local roads.
We ask the parents to continuously have conversations around being safe on the roads when riding a bike, scooter or walking.
We will continue delivering educational opportunities for the children around road safety where possible to ensure our children are arriving home safely each afternoon!
