Term 1 Week 5: 2023
From the Principal
Good Morning Parents, Carers and Community members.
What a week it has been, as we begin the church season of Lent. It is hard to believe that we are already in week five.
On Tuesday, the school and community came together to celebrate Shrove Tuesday, in the lead up to Ash Wednesday. I would like to thank our staff, community and parish members for being a part of these liturgical events. To see involvement from the community, and being apart of the school events is great to see.
It has also been great seeing our students in correct uniforms and thank those families that have rectified incorrect uniforms over the past couple of weeks. As a reminder, information regarding the correct uniform can be found on the school website, under the school policy. If there are any questions or concerns regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me.
We have a busy couple of weeks ahead, therefore I would like to take this time to address these events so that everyone is aware.
Events:
Next Week, we are hosting the 11-12Yrs & 14-15Yrs NW Rugby League Carnival. Our F.A.C.E. committee and Parish are coming together to run the canteen for this over the two days of Thursday, 2nd March and Friday, 3rd March.
I would also like to congratulate the four students from St Francis who will be participating in this, Bryce, Cade, Blaze and Beau. As a school, we look forward to hearing and seeing how these trials go and wish you all the best.
Next week on Tuesday, 28th February 2023 at 5;15pm in the Library. We also have our 2nd F.A.C.E. meeting for the year. As a reminder, all agenda items should be sent to sfsh@tsv.catholic.edu.au by 3:00pm, Friday 24th February 2023. I invite all of our community to attend this event.
NAPLAN:
NAPLAN Testing now held in Term 1, traditionally NAPLAN has been in Term 2. But in an effort to get the data into the schools and teachers hands faster, NAPLAN will now be happening in Week 8, Term 1.
Yesterday, an email was sent out to the parents of Year 3 & Year 5 students regarding NAPLAN information. A hard copy of this will also be sent home with these students today.

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In Science, we have been learning about the food chain. We learned about producers, consumers and decomposers and their roles within the food chain. Using paper plates, we created our own model of a food chain showing each of those roles.

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been exploring different types of sentences in English. We are learning all about simple, compound and complex sentences and how when we use a variety they make our writing more exciting. This week, we organised ourselves into the different sentences by using the different parts that make these up.
