Term 1 Week 2: 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
I hope Week 2 has treated you and your families well. This week, the staff of St Francis, Hughenden, have been busy looking at data and working towards programs to ensure our student’s here at St Francis are getting the best they possibly can.
This week, we also held our Parents Information and Meet & Greet evening on Monday, 30th January 2023. Thank you to those who came to join us and the classroom teachers for these sessions. For those of you who could not attend, a copy of the booklets that were handed should have been sent home with your child already. In the instance they have not yet received this, please contact your child’s classroom teacher for a copy to be sent home.
This week, we have also had the Yellow Service Team from the Head Office in Townsville out here at St Francis, Hughenden. We have been working towards completing our Annual School Improvement Plan, or, A.S.I.P. The A.S.I.P. is what guides our school annually, setting out goals for us to achieve to best help our students' here.
F.A.C.E. Meeting - Thursday, 2nd February 2023:
This afternoon, we have our F.A.C.E. meeting at 3:00pm in the staffroom.
Timetable Changes: (All Students)
Next Week, we will also have a lesson/day swap. On Friday, 10th February, we have a number of students as well as Miss Eriksen away for School Sport Trials. Therefore, we will be moving Friday’s Specialist Lessons and Funky Friday to Wednesday, 8th February 2023. A reminder will be posted on Facebook regarding this for both days.
ECSI Survey:
In 2024, St Francis Catholic School, Hughenden will be completing its Validation. Validation is a process that occurs every five (5) years and with that, a survey on Enhancing Catholic Schools Identity (E.C.S.I.).
This ECSI survey is employed by Townsville Catholic Education, as part of the response to the religious, cultural and ideological diversity of those who engage in Catholic Education today.
Staff, Parents & Carers, Students and the Community will be asked to complete this survey to help improve our school as well as provide insight as to what the St Francis, Hughenden community wishes to see.
The survey period is from Monday, 6th February 2023 till Friday, 28th April 2023. Further information regarding the ECSI Survey will become available next week.
All the best and God Bless,
Scott Murray,
A/Principal

Prep/1 Happenings
We have had a super busy week in P/1. We looked at numbers, our first round of letters and sounds and we even got to use our chromebooks. It’s been a fantastic start to the term and P/1 is in the full learning swing!
Miss Brown,

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
This week for Science, the 2/3/4 students have been learning about Living and Nonliving things. We investigated the school grounds to find a variety of living things such as galahs, butterflies and ants. Students also had to justify why they believe these things were living and compare them to non-living things.

Year 5/6 Happenings
This week we have been exploring the writing process, the steps we take when we write. We discovered the importance of editing and feedback for improving our writing, as well as that our first draft won’t always be our best copy. We also found out that like in writing, the more detail we add the easier it is for the reader to understand our point of view.

Guidos Gossip
Physical health and well-being
Physical activity and exercise are not only vital to a child’s overall development, but it has many
other benefits. With the rise of technology and children being sedentary, it is even more important
that we get out kids moving. As well as maintaining a healthy weight, it also improves concentration by helping to establish connections between different parts of the brain.
Exercise helps kids develop fundamental movement skills, impacting positively their confidence, self-esteem, and ability to develop social skills. On an emotional level, improves cognitive function and sleep, elevates mood, improves learning, and reduces stress and anxiety while improving posture and sleep.
Physical activity and exercise are good for your child’s health, now and in the future.
Professor Jo Salmon is Co-Director of the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition at Deakin
University. Her research Focuses on the development of strategies to promote physical activity and
reduce sedentary behavior among children and adolescents.
