Term 4 Week 4: 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Class groupings 2023
Next year we have had to change our class groupings due to an increase in numbers in our early years. This is fantastic to see and we are very grateful that our school continues to grow and expand. Our groupings and teachers will be as follows for 2023:
Miss Brown P/1
Miss Allison 2/3/4
Miss Eriksen ⅚
We look forward to another wonderful year of learning and teaching in our classrooms!
Australian Curriculum V9.0
As some may be aware, we are moving towards implementing a new and updated version of our Australian Curriculum. The Australian Curriculum (new and old version) is designed to teach students what it takes to be confident and creative individuals and become active and informed citizens. It sets the goal for what students should learn as they progress through their whole school life - wherever they live in Australia and whatever school they attend (The Australian Curriculum: An Overview for Parents). Our teachers use the Australian Curriculum to plan for students' needs, and will respond and differentiate to ensure all our students progress in their learning.
As a staff we will be familiarising ourselves with the new curriculum in 2023, implementing V9.0 in English and Mathematics in 2024 and including the remainder of the subjects in 2025.
Mission Month
This year, the Catholic Mission walks hand-in-hand with the Church of Ethiopia and the local communities towards providing life-changing opportunities to those most in need. Pope Francis, in his 2022 World Mission Sunday message, invites everyone to answer the call to be missionary, sharing that "Mission is carried out together, not individually...". They are currently supporting a range of mission development programs in Ethiopia addressing malnutrition, the lack of access to education for young children, and the vulnerable position of women in society.
We will be finishing off Mission Month with a movie afternoon this Friday 28th October. Our Year 6 students will be serving up popcorn and milkshakes with an entry fee of $5! With all funds raised going towards Catholic Mission Month!
Melbourne Cup
Due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to cancel our community Melbourne Cup Luncheon. However, Mrs Crozier has so kindly offered to do up some nibbles for our students and families to share along with any of our pre-prep families wishing to come along. We will still have our student performances, the race live and a photobooth with Emma the Pony. If anyone can give Mrs Crozier a hand with any preparation please let us know by calling the office. If you are wanting to attend, please also call teh office to RSVP for catering purposes. Everyone is more then welcome and we look forward to seeing you all!
Have a great weekend!

Prep/1/2 Happenings
Let’s talk about shapes!!! We used our knowledge of 2D shapes to make a range of different creations, from animals, to robots to people! It was a great way to wrap up our shapes unit.

Year 3/4 Happenings
Before school, there are lots of things to do! Students are given the opportunity to sharpen pencils and clean desks so that they are ready for the day. Students also are able to have a bit of fun playing a game of Platypus on the board to practice spelling words, or a game of Connect Four and practice strategy and problem solving skills.
Miss Allison,
sallison1@sfsh.catholic.edu.au
Year 5/6 Happenings
We are scientific superstars in 5/6 working hard to develop our science skills and become rocking researchers. We are lucky enough to participate in an insect investigation with the University of the Sunshine Coast. This week, we planted some plasticine caterpillars around the school to help us identify the predators of insects. We will be checking our caterpillars at the end of the week to see what might have nibbled on our insects.

Tuckshop
Reminder: Tuckshop is now on Friday.
We are still after tuckshop volunteers, if you have some free time on a Friday please feel free to pop up and lend a hand!
There will be no snack for tuckshop this week as we are having morning tea with our grandparents and special friends. First and second break as per usual!
