Term 3 Week 5: 10 August 2021
Welcome to Week 5...
Good afternoon Parents and Caregivers,
Good morning Parents and Caregivers
A recent Workplace Health and Safety review has highlighted some areas for maintenance and areas within our policies that need adjusting. The review has identified that our ‘tree cross’ in our playground is rotting and will need to be removed. It also identified some areas in our playground that are not compliant with the current standards and will need to be replaced. In the meantime, some changes have been put in place to play areas to ensure the safety of our students. This work will not be completed for a while, as it will take some time to bring the project together. Students were made aware of these changes last week and have accepted them readily – particularly when knowing there will be a bigger and better playground coming to replace it.
Last week we were visited by the head of our finance department, Mr Chris Watts, to discuss some works for the school. Some of the storms earlier this year highlighted the need to replace the roof for the majority of the school. This work is due to be completed in the September holidays, so as to ensure as little disruption to the students as possible. We have also identified the need for a new water cooler and the need to refurbish the administration areas. This project is in the very early stages, however should provide us with much more usable spaces for administration and the Uniform shop.
We are actively taking new enrolments, so if you have a preppie or a student wanting to start school next year or know of someone who does, please contact the office. Enrolment interviews will commence early in term 4.

Consent to administer MEDICATIONS at School...
We have received some clarification with regards to when and how we can administer medication at school. It is very important that we have a completed form at school for either EVENT or ONGOING medication.
EVENT MEDICATION - eg antibiotics. The consent form can be signed by a parent but the MEDICATION MUST BE PRESCRIBED BY A MEDICAL PRACTITIONER AND LABELLED ACCORDINGLY.
ONGOING MEDICATION - eg longer than 30 days. In this case, the consent form MUST BE SIGNED BY THE DOCTOR or an ACTION PLAN WHICH HAS BEEN SIGNED BY THE DOCTOR.
PARACETAMOL or any over the counter medicines can only be administered if it has been prescribed to the student by a medical practitioner and labelled accordingly.
If you have any further questions regarding this information, please contact Ms B or Miss Jodie at the school office.

Year 3/4 happenings...
We completed another sugary science experiment to see how erosion changes the Earth's surface. In this experiment, we first made our own mountain ranges using brown sugar. We then slowly poured water over our mountain range and saw how the water took our 'dirt' and moved it to a new place in the mountain range. We then discussed how different elements, even humans, can also cause erosion to make gradual changes over time.

Year 5/6 happenings...
This term in science has seen us become earthquake and volcano explorers. We have been investigating how earthquakes and volcanoes occur, and where they occur. Last week we discovered different types of volcanoes and how the viscosity of their lava affects the shape of the volcano.
