Term 2 Week 6: 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
What a wonderfully busy week we have had here at St Francis! There has been a variety of events this week including the Ryan Catholic College Ensemble visiting and our Annual Under 8s Day!
We started the week off by celebrating and acknowledging Laudato Si’ Week. Laudato Si’ Week is a celebration of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’ and a call to action for Catholics around the world. The annual celebration has become a way for all Catholics to unite and rejoice in the progress we’ve made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life and to commit ourselves to further prayer and action for our common home. This year, with the theme of “Listening and Journeying Together” Catholics on six continents will work on “bringing the human family together to protect our common home” (LS 13), which is the guiding Laudato Si’ quote for the weeklong celebration. The students participated in a blackout meditation and a small liturgy in which they learnt about Laudato Si’ and how they can contribute to improving our planet.
It was a lovely performance from the Ryan Band on Wednesday and the children thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Thanks to Ashley Crocker for organising the Western Tour!
Our Annual Under 8s day was a fantastic event again this year with our Under the Sea theme. A wonderful sight to see the children enjoying a variety of fun activities. A big thank you to our staff who have worked tirelessly to put this event together, particularly our school officers Miss Margy, Miss Mac and Miss Howie.
I am off to APRE and Principals meeting next week and I’ll be replaced by Mrs Jacqui Loader. Jacqui will visit the classrooms and teach my Art lessons for the week. Jacqui has years of experience and is nbo stranger to the west. We look forward to welcoming Jacqui to the St Francis family.
Have a wonderful weekend at the local Hughenden Show!

Prep/1/2 Happenings
We love our lap desks! This week in Prep/1/2 we’ve been doing a lot of collaborative learning. We are learning about direction in Maths so we pulled out the lap desks and did a lesson using them.

Year 3/4 Happenings
In Science, we have been studying heat! Our science assessment is based around this cool experiment, where we find out which spoon material (Metal, Wood or Plastic) will heat up the most when placed in hot water. We then filled in a table and we will reflect on these results.
Miss Allison,

Year 5/6 Happenings
We have been exploring democracy and citizenship in HASS this term. This week we have been looking at our rights and responsibilities as Australian citizens. We looked at how someone could become an Australian citizen and the requirements such as completing a test and an interview. The students enjoyed taking a practice citizenship test, to test their knowledge of Australia.
