Term 2 Week 4: 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
NAPLAN is well and truly underway. The students have been nothing short of amazing and taken the testing in their stride. With only one more day to go, I’m sure the students are looking forward to their final test. For absent students, we will have catch up tests next week to get any unfinished tests finalised. A big congratulations to our staff for working tirelessly to prepare our students for these tests and being wonderful teachers and school officers all round. Not even their principal getting COVID could stop this wonderful group of ladies!
As you may have read on COMPASS this week, I have unfortunately been absent due to COVID. Given the significant increase in cases in Hughenden over the past week we encourage all families to be vigilant, test your child if they display symptoms and keep them at home if they are ill. In light of the new mandate, close contacts are allowed to attend school if they produce a negative RAT on days 0,2,4,6 and have not got any symptoms. Masks are not mandatory for children under 12 years but we do highly encourage them where practically possible. If your child does need to stay home for any COVID related reasons, you are more then welcome to contact your child’s teacher for any work they can do at home. We understand this is a difficult time and we are here to support your family in every way possible.
Our FACE meeting was very successful last week and you would’ve noticed on the minutes I placed in COMPASS that we have decided on a date for multiple school events. Our fete is set for the 9th September and we have decided to run a much anticipated Golf Day again on August 20. Both of these events require parent support so I do hope you can all make it and we would love any help where possible! We will have more details closer to the events.
We are all very excited to welcome our lovely cleaner Nicole back after she has taken some time away from school. We are so glad she has returned to us and we missed her greatly in her absence.
We are welcoming the Mulkadee Crew- Rachel Cairns and Sandy Neal to our school tomorrow. The ladies will be running a musical workshop with the whole school and teaching them some of the songs that will be performed for our 2022 Mulkadee Variety Show. This will be a wonderful warm-up for our 5/6s who head to Townsville in July for the big performance!
I hope you have all enjoyed the rain this week!

Prep/1/2 Happenings..
We love Art in P/1/2 and we have such amazing little artists. Every Friday in our specialist lessons we get a chance to show off our drawing, painting and crafting skills. This week we got to paint a coral reef and draw the cat in the hat.

Year 3/4 Happenings...
In English, we have been focusing on persuasive writing. The 3/4s turned into expert salesmen and women this week and wrote an ad for an electric sharpener! They had to use their knowledge of persuasive language to convince our audience why someone should buy this sharpener.

Year 5/6 Happenings...
This week we have been very busy in 5/6! The year 5's have been busy completing all of their NAPLAN tests, with our last one being Numeracy tomorrow. Whilst the Year 5's have been doing NAPLAN, the year 6's have been busy in maths learning all about finding a fraction of an amount, adding and subtracting decimals and negative numbers.
