Welcome to Week 3.

Dear Parents
Welcome to week 3.
I know it seems like a broken record, but what a busy week we had last week. And this week appears to be looking just as busy.
The highlight for last week has to be our senior students attending Mulkadee. The experience gained from practising and performing with over 700 students is one that students will carry with them forever. The daily routine of catching the bus, living in dorms and eating in the cafeteria is one that some of our students will carry through to boarding school or university in the years to come. The photos and videos I have received thus far, show just the magnitude of the event. I am proud of the efforts of our students and of our teachers. Our students could not participate in events like this if it were not for the efforts of our teachers. A big thank you to Miss Eriksen and Mrs Mc.
Our P-4 students attended a performance of 'Wilbur the Optical Whale', and from all accounts had a whale of a time! They also joined together to do some more work in their Olympic country groups and are slowly building on their medal tally.
We will have a visit from Kate Sargent this week. Kate is the Townsville Catholic Education Office’s, early years Numeracy Coach. Kate will provide Ms Brown with some feedback on student progress over the year and also share some great hands-on experiences for Ms Brown to use in the classroom.
With many more events coming up in the next few weeks, it really is important for parents to stay connected and informed. This newsletter, the COMPASS app and Facebook are our main lines of information sharing. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

From the FACE meeting...
Our Annual Fete is on Friday 8th of October.
On Tuesday a group of parents met to discuss plans for the fete. One of the big issues is the provision of rides for the night. The rides are booked (no deposit paid as yet) at a cost of $5000. In previous years we have received a council grant to offset this cost. In 2021, we have not been successful in receiving this grant. This means we will have to wear the full cost of the rides. The alternative is to cancel the rides and go ahead with the fete without them.
We need to make a decision by Friday. I am asking that as many of you as possible, could email me indicating your preferences for or against going ahead with the rides.

Free Dress Day...
This Friday is an Olympic 'Free Dress' day. Come in Green and Gold and bring a grocery item towards the "Grocery Grab" stall the students will be holding at our annual Fete.

2021 Bookfair...
This year our theme is "Egyptian - It's a cool place to discover hot books". We look forward to seeing your amazing costume ideas!

Prep/1/2 happenings...
In P/1/2 we love to work with physical manipulatives to help us learn. Whilst our preps and 1's have been working with counting, our Year 2’s have been working with multiplication.

Year 3/4 happenings...
In HASS, we researched the lives of students that live in other countries, such as Papua New Guinea, Japan and the Philippines. Tori, for example, researched the life of a student in Cambodia and learned about a tasty treat - fried tarantula!
Miss Allison,

Year 5/6 happenings...
What an amazing week away we had at Mulkadee. We made lots of new friends with other students from all over the Townsville diocese, explored the university campus and developed our singing skills. To top it all off, we performed in a spectacular concert based on the Wizard of Oz.
Miss Eriksen,

Mid West Athletics...
Well done to our students that competed in the Mid West Athletics carnival at HSS on Wednesday. Cade, Bryce, Evie and Blaze competed their hearts out and did our school proud. We look forward to sharing their results soon.

Wilbur the Optical Whale.....
Students from Prep to Year 4 were treated with an extraordinary show at the DEC last week.
When Wilbur gets teased by the Starfish Meanies for wearing his glasses, the whole undersea world gets turned upside down.
The performance unpacks big ideas around friendship, bullying, and the strengths of being different, sparking the imagination of the young and young-at-heart.
Based on the book Wilbur the Optical Whale written by Karen Lee Roberts and illustrated by Melika Adel.
Thank you to the Flinders Shire Council for bringing this performance to town.
