From the Principal...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Week 10 has rolled around and we have successfully made it to the end of a very busy Term 1. The children have had a wonderful week completing Easter Craft, participating in our End of Term Mass and finishing off Assessment pieces.
The students have been madly colouring away and creating Easter hats as part of a competition organised by the Hospital staff and our school. Their craft will be judged by the elderly residents and we will present the winners from each class on assembly tomorrow. We look forward to hearing the winners when we return next Term. We hope to be able to organisation more events with the aged care residents in the future.
We will be conducting Parent/Teacher interviews early in Term 2. This year these will be optional and you will only need to have a meeting if you or your child’s teacher requests one. We will be sending home communication about this at the end of week 1 Term 2.
NAPLAN is fast approaching with the start date being the 10th of May. Our Years 3 and 5 students continue to do practice tests and I have emailed them the link to the public demonstration site. They can use this link at home and at school to prepare for NAPLAN in the weeks to come. If you have any questions in relation to NAPLAN, please feel free to contact me at any time.
Our first Whole School Mass with our parish was very successful. The children were all very well behaved, and it was a lovely morning celebrating in St Thomas’ Church. This is the first time the children have been to the church in over 3 years after the closure of our own Sacred Heart Church. It was wonderful seeing them ask questions and participate in the Mass Service. We hope to continue this at the end of each term.
From all of us at St Francis Catholic school we wish you a happy and Holy easter.

P/1/2 have been busy not only with school work! But also Easter craft! We’ve been doing different crafts each afternoon but this one’s our favourite so far! We made wooden bunnies with movable arms and legs!

Year 3/4 Happenings...
3/4 students have been working very hard on addition and subtraction this term! In this lesson, we are using a variety of word challenge cards to practice our problem solving skills in maths. Some of these were quite tricky, but the students are learning to not give up and keep trying different ways until they get the correct answer. Don't worry! The calculators aren't for cheating! We use our calculators to check our answers.

Year 5/6 Happenings...
Well the term has come to an end and we have been very busy. We have been as busy as a bee finishing all of our assessment tasks. The whole class is to be commended on how hard they have been working to get everything completed. Between finishing our assessments, we have also been finishing our Easter bonnets which will go to the hospital to be judged. They have put in a lot of effort and they are all looking fantastic. See you next term!

Internet Safety...
Internet safety is extremely important when trying to monitor our students on their devices. There have been a lot of questions from parents around Queensland regarding internet safety measures. Please use the links below to learn more about how you can keep your children safe when they are online!

Guido's Gossip...
Is there a link between exercise and good mental health?
Our children’s participation in physical activity and exercise has been declining over the last decade. Tech time is often used as a way in which we wind down and for recreation purposes, as well as tools for education and learning. So how do we find that balance? As caregivers, we play an important role in supporting our children to develop positive habits that will inspire healthy growth across their life span.
As well as keeping our children healthy, exercise also offers benefits of improved concentration by helping their brain build new connections and spend some of their mental energy. Kids’ emotional development benefits from exercise as it significantly reduces stress, anxiety and improves sleep, which influences our kid’s overall mood. Physical activity helps our young ones to develop fundamental movement skills, which in turn has a direct link to a boost in confidence, self-esteem, as well as ability to develop positive social skills.

School Notices...
We have had a COVID Positive Case in our School Community.
Please remember to monitor your children for any flu like symptoms and test where possible.
If your child returns a positive test, please let us know.
This Anzac Day the children will be singing a song at the Anzac Day Ceremony.
Although this is not compulsory, we would love to see everyone's support.
As a school we do our best to encourage road safety with the children.
Over the last few weeks we have had reports about children from our school not practicing safety on our local roads.
We ask the parents to continuously have conversations around being safe on the roads when riding a bike, scooter or walking.
We will continue delivering educational opportunities for the children around road safety where possible to ensure our children are arriving home safely each afternoon!
