Term 1 Week 7: 2022
From the Principal...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
As we begin approaching the last week of school I’d like to reflect on the term that was. Our staff and students have been extremely resilient, patient and determined this term and everyone has worked hard. I’m very appreciative of the work our teachers have put in to ensure the children had many wonderful learning experiences despite what was an uncertain time for everyone. I’m also grateful to the parents for being patient, kind and compassionate whilst we navigated the new and ever-changing COVID rules. We will be having a midday finish next Friday (1st April) for our last day of the term!
As NAPLAN is fast approaching our Years 3 and 5 students will be engaging in some practice tests to ensure they are familiar with the online platform prior to our scheduled tests from May 10-20.The 3-6 students also continue to work on their Wire (Writing in Religious Education) each week and are developing their writing skills.
We have had a few changes to our week this week with Miss Allison heading off to Townsville for a spirituality retreat on Thursday and Friday. I’ll be in the ¾ classroom on Thursday and Mrs Ford will be in on Friday to have the class. This will be a fantastic opportunity for Miss Allison and we are sure she will have lots to share when she returns.
We are holding a whole school mass on Thursday 31st of March at 9am. Families and friends are welcome to join us for this special occasion as we head to St Thomas’ Church on Hardwicke Street. The children will need to be dropped at school as normal and we will be using the community bus to transport them to and from the church for the morning. We look forward to being able to gather as a school community for the end of Term 1.
With our restrictions having eased don’t forget parents are able to join us for assemblies again from 9am in our assembly room. We would love for you to join us each week!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Sharn Greenaway

Prep/1/2 Happenings..
We complete a variety of different tasks in literacy rotations. We do our gross motor course twice a week, fine motor, and we even get a chance to practise our sight and spelling words! Mrs Mac took the student to the basketball court to practise writing our sight/spelling words with our special unicorn chalk!

Year 3/4 Happenings...
In English, we are moving away from story writing and starting our persuasive writing! We started off by having a fun activity where students needed to make a decision on whether they agreed or disagreed to various topics. The main key: they had to explain WHY they agreed or disagreed.Students decided their opinions on topics like: "Recycling isn't really that important", "Maths is the hardest subject at school" and "swimming lessons should be made compulsory for every student".

Year 5/6 Happenings...
We have been very busy in our specialist lessons for music this term. In the 3/4/5/6 class we have been learning all about the elements of music such as dynamics, rhythm, form, timbre, melody and harmony. We are looking at how the elements of music are used in different classical songs.

School Notices...
We have had a COVID Positive Case in our School Community.
Please remember to monitor your children for any flu like symptoms and test where possible.
If your child returns a positive test, please let us know.
This Anzac Day the children will be singing a song at the Anzac Day Ceremony.
Although this is not compulsory, we would love to see everyone's support.
As a school we do our best to encourage road safety with the children.
Over the last few weeks we have had reports about children from our school not practicing safety on our local roads.
We ask the parents to continuously have conversations around being safe on the roads when riding a bike, scooter or walking.
We will continue delivering educational opportunities for the children around road safety where possible to ensure our children are arriving home safely each afternoon!
