From the Principal...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We had a cracking start to the week with our dress up day on twosday. The kids had a blast and all looked fantastic! All funds raised from the gold coin donation will be going towards the year ⅚ camp.
Our FACE meeting is next Wednesday at 3pm and we would love to see all of the parents there. We only have a small agenda and just ask for an hour of your time. Topics for discussion include Year ⅚ camp, tuckshop, Fun Run and Mulkadee.
We will be holding an Ash Wednesday Liturgy on the 2nd March and due to ongoing COVID restrictions unfortunately we can only have the children, staff and parish members attend. Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent in the Church, and calls us to be reflective and prayerful as we prepare to celebrate Christ's resurrection at Easter. Lent is a time to renew and strengthen our faith by placing a focus on the things we should be prioritising in order to become closer to God through our journey with Christ. Prayer, fasting and charitable actions are common ways for members of the church to strengthen their faith, and children particularly are often encouraged to focus on choosing something they can do more of or improve during Lent, such as helping more at home or being patient with siblings or peers at school. To prepare for Ash Wednesday, we will be chatting to the children about the Season of Lent and how they can either give something up or commit to doing something positive for 40 days. Our school will also be learning about the work of Caritas during a zoom on Tuesday with Dan Skehan, and Project Compassion provides another opportunity during Lent for all members of our community to turn our focus to the teachings of Jesus to love our neighbour. The following prayer helps us as we prepare for the Season of Lent.
Loving God,
We thank you for the gift of our lives and for the life of every person, both near to us and far away. We thank you for the wonder of all your creation.
Through fasting, almsgiving and prayerand through looking for ways to be the face of Christ for others, may this Lent draw us deeperinto the warmth and light of God's love.
May we see the world more clearly,Especially those who are often overlooked.May we come closer to your heart, which you showed through the cross of Jesus.
May we be full of hope for all future generations. We ask this in Jesus' name
Amen.

We had 7 children attend the North West Swimming trials in Richmond over the weekend and swam like champions! We are so proud of their effort and the way they conducted themselves over the weekend. They represented their school with pride and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship. Congratulations to you all on your efforts!
Representative sport continues with Netball, League and Touch trials happening in Julia Creek on Wednesday 2nd March. These trials are for 10-12 years (or students born 2010-2012).
Our weeks seem to be getting busier and the term is absolutely flying by! Enjoy your week!

Prep/1/2 Happenings..
When we learn our new sounds in P/1/2 we go on a sound hunt! We look at a large picture on the board and circle all the things on the board that make the sound we’re learning. The Preps have also been working on writing their numbers to 20! We have a special table that the students can draw on with whiteboard marker.

Guido's Gossip...
Supporting your kids’ back-to-school-emotions in 2022
There are ongoing impacts of the pandemic, and going back to school adds another layer of stress, during a time where children are already experiencing a lot of change. As humans, we’re hard-wired to seek control and guard against any threats and or dangers that come with uncertainty. This is helpful when you find yourself dealing with potential physical dangers- However many possible threats are intangible uncertainties, that we have little control over. This does not stop us from trying to control the situation, however, it often leaves us feeling exhausted, stressed, and no closer to a solution.
Children are not immune to the effects of uncertainty. In fact, research suggests that a 20-month-old infant can experience uncertainty, while children as young as 4.5 years of age are able to identify an uncertain situation, monitor their feelings of uncertainty, and ask a safe adult for help. While children may be able to recognize and respond to uncertainty from a young age, children under the age of 12 have not yet developed the skills necessary in order to manage it (Osmanagaoglu, Creswell & Dodd, 2018). Children need support and guidance from the adults in their lives to help them cope with change and uncertainty. Learning how to cope with uncertainty is a key life skill, and with the right support and strategies, parents and caregivers can help their children develop ways they can tackle change more confidently, manage difficult emotions and build resilience in the long term.
