From the Principal

As we head into the final weeks of the term, our calendar is filled with exciting events that bring our school community together. This Friday, we look forward to celebrating our Rite of Passage & Awards Evening, followed by our our End of Year Mass on Tuesday 19th November. Swimming Carnival next Friday 22nd November, and closing the year with our final assembly and a morning of Christmas Carols.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to Brenda Townley for organising the Swimming Carnival, and to the Hammer Heads Swimming Club for their generous support in running the canteen. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated community rallying behind us!

On the note of a dedicated community, my thanks goes out to each and every one of you who contributed in some way to our donations for the firefighting efforts in the gorge area. There was an incredible response to our call for help and I am beyond grateful & proud of the help we were able to offer those doing it tough!

Today, we also hosted our very first Prep Transition Day, welcoming the Preppies of 2025! It was a joy to meet our newest little learners and see their excitement as they took their first steps into the school community.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead!

Sharn Greenaway

Principal

School TV Topic of the Week-Positive Parenting

Positive Parenting

Despite the best efforts of parents around the world, the reality is, there is no such thing as the ‘perfect parent’. However, arming yourself with the right information is a good start!

Research shows, that one of the most important protective factors in the lives of young people, is a close relationship with a supportive adult. With the mental health of today’s young people being at an all-time low, it is simply not enough to parent effectively. Parents need to familiarise themselves with practical skills, knowledge and strategies when it comes to raising children.

Many parents today are over-protective, resulting in children being less independent, unable to problem-solve or self-regulate. Parents are failing to set clear boundaries, which is unfortunately making kids feeling less secure. There is too much pressure on kids today. Parents fill their days with too many activities in an effort to avoid their child’s boredom.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn what is the best approach for primary and secondary school aged children.

Prep/1 Happenings

This week, we welcomed our Pre-Prep friends for their first Transition Day, and it was an exciting experience for everyone involved! The children enjoyed a Gross Motor Obstacle Course, where they showcased their physical skills and teamwork. We also gathered together to read Starting School, helping to introduce the idea of what to expect in Prep.

In a creative activity, the students made their own lunch boxes while discussing healthy food choices, which led to an engaging interactive lunchbox game on the board. To add even more fun, we organised a school bag scavenger hunt, where our future Preppies found essential items they’ll need next year.

It was a fantastic day filled with laughter, learning, and new friendships. We can’t wait to welcome our Pre-Prep friends back next week for more exciting adventures!

P/1 Teacher

Year 2/3/4 Happenings

Did you know that 2/3/4 have been studying procedural texts in English? For their English assessment, students wrote their own recipe to add to our 2/3/4 recipe book. Of course, this recipe book HAD to have photos of it. What better opportunity for 2/3/4 to visit the kitchen and cook up a storm of their amazing recipes. Here’s a sneak peak of their awesome creations.

Year 2/3/4 Teacher

Year 5/6 Happenings

This week, the year 5/6 students had the opportunity to have a visit from Bishop Tim, Father Collin and Sister Rita. Students prepared insightful questions to ask Bishop Tim and were enlightened by his responses. Students gained valuable information in relation to their religion unit for the Term which is “Living faith”. Students made connections with the sacraments and spoke about who can perform these in our church. Students loved having Bishop Tim and Father Collin come and speak to them today, can’t you tell by the smile on their face!

Year 5/6 Teacher
