Term 4 Week 6: 09 November 2021
From the Principal...
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to Week 6.
We will have two visiting teachers this week. Mrs Carrie Kiernan is coming back to visit and we welcome Ms Bridget Donovan. These teachers will cover our current teachers as they duck away for appointments and prepare for report cards. I will also be heading out for a week to attend some appointments in Townsville.
I would like to express my concerns with some of the student lunch boxes. Some students are being given the responsibility of packing their own lunch. And this is a good thing. However, we are seeing some very sad looking lunchboxes arrive at school. We have been having discussions about the necessity of fruit and vegetables, proteins and carbohydrates on their growing bodies and in particular on energy levels during the day. All students are encouraged to eat their fresh food first and will be discouraged from eating pre-packaged food, when there is fresh food (sandwiches, yoghurt, fruit/vegetables, muffins etc) in their lunch box. Your assistance in ensuring the students have both quality and quantity of food is appreciated. Nobody can learn on a stomach full of sugar or worse still an empty stomach.
The swimming carnival is scheduled for Friday 26th November at the Community Pool. All spectators are welcome, however be prepared to help out if the need arises. More information to follow.
On Wednesday 1st December, we will host the Rite of passage and Awards night in the parish hall. This event farewells our senior students and celebrates the success of all students. The event is invitation only which will be sent out in the next few weeks.
The Dry Land Pool Party will take place on Thursday 2nd December, followed by the Carols that night in the Parish Hall. BYO supper and drinks.

Prep/1/2 Happenings..
In Prep/1/2 we are learning all about sound and vibrations in Science. To learn more about vibrations we used balloons in a little science experiment. Did you know that balloons make a lot of sound vibrations? Especially when you let them go, we made all sorts of noises with the balloons that also causes small vibrations and the students had a chance to feel this happen.

Year 3/4 Happenings...
We absolutely LOVE reading in our class. Everyday, we read our favourite books after lunch time. We love using books from our class library, or using one of the many resources on our chromebooks, such as Sora, Epic or Destiny. Our class has managed to read over 600 books on Epic alone! Don't forget, students can use these resources at home too!

Year 5/6 Happenings...
We have been busy researching all different scientists and their achievements for a homework task throughout the term. In this task the students had to determine which of the five scientists (Isaac Newton, Marie Curie, Wilhem Röntgen, Alexander Fleming and Edward Jenner) they would save as they were only able to save four. We had some very engaging presentations! A big thank you to all of the parents and carers who helped the students complete this task.
