Term 3 Week 9- 2024
From the Principal
Dear Families ,
As we approach the end of Term 3, it's nice to reflect on the many wonderful events and celebrations we've experienced. This term has been a busy one, and I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our parent volunteers, dedicated staff, and enthusiastic student helpers. Our school community is truly blessed with families who are always willing to lend a hand wherever needed.
Thanks to everyone's efforts, we have created lasting memories for our students through various camps and excursions. As our Year 2/3/4 students embark on their final camp of the year, we wish them an enjoyable time and look forward to hearing all about their adventures upon their return.
To close out the term, we will gather for a whole school end-of-term Mass with Fr. Emmanuel next Tuesday. This will be a special time for us to come together and celebrate the wonderful term we've shared. We warmly invite all our families to join us at 8:30 am in the quadrangle.

Supporting Our Students' Wellbeing Through SchoolTV
In today's fast-paced world, raising happy, healthy, and resilient children has never been more challenging for parents. At St Francis, we understand the importance of equipping families with the right tools and resources to navigate these challenges. That’s why we’re excited to share the SchoolTV platform with our school community.
SchoolTV provides a comprehensive range of wellbeing resources designed to support parents and guardians. Through our dedicated school page, families can access a wide array of topics and special reports that offer valuable insights and strategies for supporting your children's wellbeing.
We encourage all parents to explore the platform and take advantage of the resources available. Together, we can work in partnership to ensure the best outcomes for our students' wellbeing.

Prep/1 Happenings
The highlight of the week in Prep/1 was a hands-on experiment for Science with light. Armed with a torch, the students investigated how light interacts with different materials found in our classroom. They shone the torch on various objects—some transparent, some translucent, and some opaque—and observed what happened.
- Transparent materials, like clear plastic or glass, allowed the light to pass through easily, making them perfect for windows or glasses.
- Translucent materials, such as frosted glass or thin paper, let some light through but scattered it, creating a soft, diffused effect.
- Opaque materials, like a book or a piece of wood, blocked the light entirely, casting a distinct shadow.
This experiment helped the students identify similarities and differences in how materials interact with light, broadening their understanding of the world around them.

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
Did you know that 2/3/4 are going to Winton next week for the annual Poetry festival? 2/3/4 have been working super hard on learning the poem Dinosaurs by Marco Gliori as a class to present in the festival. Morgan, Hayley, Bella, Flynn and Arley have also nominated themselves to participate individually and will be presenting different poems. 2/3/4 will be leaving early Wednesday next week to have an overnight stay in Winton, to perform in the festival, and also participate in some other fun activities. I am very proud of all 2/3/4 students for their dedication and continued practice for this event.

Year 5/6 Happenings
As we approach the end of the term, our Year 5/6 students have been working hard to complete their assessments. In Science, they had an exciting opportunity to extend their knowledge of the Solar System by creating their very own planets. They had to include the following: the planet’s size, atmosphere, surface features, climate, and life forms. They also decided on the number of moons, the planet’s location in the system, and the resources available.
The students put their imaginations to the test, designing unique planets to fit into our Solar System! Come and check out their posters to see the incredible worlds they have created!

Specialist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
This term in 2/3/4 Health we have been learning about changes which could happen as we get older such as moving or making new friends. We explored ways that we can cope with these changes such as taking deep breaths and talking to someone. To demonstrate their learning, they worked together to make board games. We can’t wait to play them next week.
