Term 3 Week 8 2024
From the Principal
Dear Families ,
As we approach National Child Protection Week in 2024, we are reminded of the vital importance of ensuring that every child in every community gets a fair go. This year, the message is beautifully complemented by the theme, ‘Every conversation matters’.
Conversations are powerful tools that can significantly impact the safety and well-being of our children and young people. Through thoughtful dialogue, we can understand pressing issues, craft solutions, and recognise the invaluable knowledge within our community. These conversations also play a crucial role in shaping the minds and social connections of our young people, fostering environments where they can thrive.
It is important to recognise that conversations at every level matter:
- Conversations between children and their caregivers are essential from the earliest days of a child’s life.
- Peer discussions among children and young people help them navigate their world and build strong, supportive friendships.
- Communication between families and professionals—teachers, doctors, and other key figures—ensures that children receive the holistic care and attention they need.
- The dialogues we have with friends, neighbors, and community members build a network of support around our children.
- And perhaps most importantly, the conversations between decision-makers and the communities they serve are crucial in creating policies and environments that protect and uplift our young people.
In the public realm, including the media, these conversations set the tone for societal attitudes and actions that can lead to real change.
This National Child Protection Week, I invite each of you to speak up and speak together about what needs to change to give every child in every community a fair go. Let’s use this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, promote the value of open dialogue, and equip ourselves with the tools to keep our children safe.
I would also like to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes for Father’s Day. Fathers play such an important role in the lives of our children, and we are incredibly appreciative of all the dads within our St. Francis Family. It was wonderful to come together as a school community to celebrate and enjoy this special day. Wishing all our fathers a very happy Father’s Day!
Warm regards,

Over the past few weeks, our Prep/1 class has been diving into the exciting world of computers as part of our Digital Technology units! The students have been eagerly developing their digital skills, and it's been amazing to watch their confidence grow. They've explored a variety of engaging programs like Reading Eggs, MathSeeds, Fast Phonics, and Prodigy, each one sparking their curiosity and enhancing their learning in fun, interactive ways. It's wonderful to see our young tech-savvy learners taking on new challenges and mastering the digital tools that will support their educational journey

Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In 2/3/4, students have been revising simple and compound sentences, so that we can improve the structure and add detail to our writing. We looked at the different parts of sentences, such as subjects, verbs, and adding words to make a complete thought. Here are some examples the 2/3/4 students have made of simple and compound sentences.

As part of their English assessments, they explored the excitement of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Students expressed their opinions and ideas by writing persuasive letters and recording engaging videos, showcasing their skills in communication and persuasion. It's been wonderful to see them apply what they've learned in such creative ways!

Specialist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
Check out our Prep/1 plants. They have been growing bigger every day and we can’t wait to see how big they grow. We spoke about how our plants all grow at different rates and even though our sunflower seeds haven’t grown much. They will grow to be the biggest!

School Captains
This week at St Francis the students celebrated the heroes in their lives at the Fathers day liturgy. While the students were down stairs making their fathers have a bit of friendly competition and playing minute to win it, the fathers were also getting a bit of a touch up! Next Friday Bob and I will be hosting our first Funky Friday. The students will be participating in a range of field events. While they are doing that, there will be a tally sheet happening. By the end of the Funky Friday there will be a prize given out to the winning team.
From your School Captains,
Adley Crozier and Robert Harriman.
