Term 3 Week 6 2024
From the Principal
Excitement is in the air as we eagerly prepare for our much-anticipated St. Francis Catholic School and Sacred Heart Parish Fete tomorrow night! The fete is a cherished event in our school community, and it’s always wonderful to see the way it brings everyone together. We are still looking for volunteers to assist with our BBQ and glowstick stalls, so if you haven’t yet returned your volunteer form, please do so as soon as possible. Alternatively, feel free to let the office know if you’re able to help. Every hand makes a difference, and your support will ensure the night is a huge success.
Our students have had an incredibly busy week filled with enriching experiences. We were fortunate to have a visit from Queensland Cricket, which was a hit with the students, who enjoyed learning new skills and engaging in some friendly competition. Additionally, our Year 5/6 students had the unique opportunity to chat with the USA Youth Bull Riding team. This was an exciting and insightful exchange, where our students not only learned about the sport but also gained an appreciation for the hard work and dedication these young athletes demonstrate.
I’d also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the families who generously contributed their time and culinary talents to assist with the cooking and serving at last week’s touch football grand final. The meal was nothing short of amazing and was very well received by the community. Your support, as always, is deeply appreciated and plays a crucial role in strengthening our school spirit.
Our Year 2/3/4 students are positively buzzing with excitement about their upcoming camp to Winton. They are extremely grateful for the fundraising efforts of our wonderful parents, which have made this trip possible. The children haven’t stopped talking about the adventure ahead, and I’m sure it will be an unforgettable experience for them.
Thank you again for your continued support and dedication to our school community. I look forward to seeing you all at the fete tomorrow night!

Prep/1 Happenings
This week, our Prep/1 students have been all about the money! They've been busy showcasing their impressive skills in counting, identifying, and using money in various fun activities. From sorting coins to playing shopkeeper, they've truly embraced the world of currency. Our Year 1s took it a step further, incorporating money into their skip counting adventures! They explored the value of different coins and practised counting in twos, fives, and tens, turning numbers into a real-life treasure hunt. Miss Brown, |
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
Over the last two weeks, students have been learning all about Fractions in 2/3/4. Students have practised identifying and using fractions in a variety of different ways. In this lesson, students played a game of Fraction Bingo, where the caller says a fraction, and the other students check their bingo cards to see if they can find the called fraction. And just to make the fractions even more fun, the bingo cards had fractions made out of pizza!

Year 5/6 Happenings
This week our 5/6 class have been looking at Money and Financial mathematics. The students are learning what it means to manage money wisely, including understanding the value of percentages and GST for Year 6 and budgeting for expenses for Year 5’s. The students had the opportunity to gain their own debit card and earn money for things such as doing their classroom jobs and getting fines for things such as speeding (running). They weren’t too impressed to discover that they had to pay $25 a week RENT! Through learning about real-life scenarios, they are developing essential skills that will help them make informed financial decisions in the future. How cool do their pretend debit cards look? |

School Captains
This week's news at St Francis is…… On Monday at lunch time the student from 5/6 went up to the Hughenden State School to visit the youth and Junior USA Bullriders! While they were there they taught us how to hold a rope and how to be safe while on a bull! At the end there were massive lines going everywhere everyone wanted to have their hats signed! Their accents were very very cool! On Friday at lunch time three students from year 5/6 will be hitting the road to Longreach. While they are there they will be participating in a range of athletic events. Adley will be participating in 100m, 200m, high jump, long jump,1500m,800m,400m and 3KM. Bob will be participating in 1500m, 800m and more! Rory will be participating in 1500m,800m and high jump. We wish these students luck! Kind Regards, Adley Crozier and Robert Harriman |
Specialist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
In P/1 we have been learning about how we are growing and getting bigger. We have been discussing changes that occur as we get older such as we lose our teeth, we grow taller, our feet get bigger and we are able to do many more things like walk and talk. To help us identify how we grow, the students are growing their own plants. We have planted three different types of seeds to look at how we all grow at different rates. We can’t wait for our plants to grow big like us!
