Term 3 Week 2 2024
From the Principal
Validation
This week our school has engaged in Townsville Catholic Education's Validation Process. School Validation follows on from Verification which you may all remember Mr Murray doing last year.
Validation of the School Renewal Process is a point in time exercise which ensures the system (in this case the Townsville Catholic Education Office as the relevant educational authority) shows that all aspects of Church, system
and government requirements are being attended to within the context of school improvement processes.
On Monday we were joined by Jo Desailly, Karen Keyes, Ross Horner, Terressa Ford and Kath Tartellin for this process. The day was wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed presenting our goals and future directions to the panel. Whilst there was many hours put in to this presentation, it was well received and the feedback was very positive! In the coming weeks the panel will put together a report with recommendations and commendations for our school. I look forward to sharing this in further detail with our school community.
Fete
The Fete is creeping up on us and will be here before we know it! We have another FACE meeting next Wednesday to discuss some of the finer details for the evening. We thank all of our sponsors for their marvelous contributions to our Fete.
Catholic Education Week
Celebrated annually in Week 3 of Term 3, Catholic Education Week is a significant event for the 312 Catholic schools across Queensland. This week provides a unique opportunity to celebrate and promote our distinctive mission and ethos.
Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society. As we celebrate this special week, we are reminded of the core values that guide our educational journey and the impact we can make in our world.
Be sure to join us for our liturgy next Friday to celebrate!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Sharn

Prep/1 Happenings
This week, mathematics has been the star of the show in our Prep/1 class! Year 1 students have immersed themselves in the world of number boards and skip counting by 10's. They practised their counting skills to determine 10 more and 10 less, enhancing their understanding of numbers and their relationships. Meanwhile, our Preps have been busy working on patterns and counting above 10 using unifix blocks. This hands-on activity has been a fantastic way for them to build their foundational math skills in a fun and engaging manner. Overall, it's been a busy and successful week in Prep/1 land, filled with exciting mathematical discoveries!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
First off - 2/3/4 are proud to welcome Miss Amanda Forward to our classroom for week 2 and 3. Miss Forward is a Pre-Service Teacher from JCU who will be working closely with Miss Allison and 2/3/4 students to further her experience in the classroom.
Secondly - 2/3/4 have been learning about Poetry in English this term. We have been focusing on both Sensory poems and Acrostic poems. They are also working towards adding detail to their poems by using their descriptive language. Here are some of our awesome poems!

Year 5/6 Happenings
This week, Year 5/6 students explored persuasive writing in English, focusing on what makes a text effective. They brainstormed ideas to persuade Miss Rowe and Mrs. Greenaway, suggesting things like longer recess and a wider range of activities at school. Using the TEEL structure (Topic sentence, Explanation, Evidence, Linking Sentence), they began crafting their paragraphs. Throughout the week, the students paired up, choosing topics to persuade both the class and Miss Rowe.
