Term 2 Week 8 - 2024
From the Principal
This week our Year 5 & 6 students headed off to camp on Magentic Island. They have been very blessed to participate in a wide range of activities including snorkelling, paddle boarding, orienteering, raft building and more! Thank you to our parents, families and volunteers for your fundraising efforts to help the kids get there! I'd also like to thank Miss Eriksen, Miss Rowe, and Mrs Page for giving their time and heading on camp with the students for the week!
We are looking down the barrel of the last few weeks of term and there is still plenty happening. Our biggest morning tea, P/1 excursion, Ian McIntosh's writing workshop and Midwest Athletics just to name a few.
We also welcome Sr Rita to our community this week as she joins us in a pastoral capacity to work with the catholic community of Hughenden. We look forward to having Sr Rita in our school soon!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Sharn Greenaway,
Principal

Prep/1 Happenings
This week in Prep/1, our students have been diligently honing their writing, spelling, and phonetic skills! They have been actively using their decoding abilities to sound out and spell words accurately. Additionally, they have been practising the proper formation of each letter, ensuring their handwriting is both legible and precise. We're incredibly proud of their hard work and progress!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In Science, 2/3/4 students have been learning about the Earth’s rotation around the Sun in our solar system. In this lesson, students learned the difference between a rotation (turning on its axis) and a revolution (turning around another thing). In these pictures, 2/3/4 students embodied the Sun, Earth, and the Earth’s moon, and acted out how each of these act in the solar system. Safe to say we had some dizzy kiddos at the end of this lesson!
Miss Allison
Year 5/6 Happenings
Wow! What an amazing week Year 5/6 are having at camp on Magnetic Island. Have you been keeping up to date with our daily camp videos on Facebook?
While our friends back home have been working hard in the classroom, we have been doing lots of fun activities throughout the week, to build students' leadership and teamwork skills. The students are all having the best time, eating amazing meals and making new friends amongst our SYMLE schools.

Specilaist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
In Drama this term, the students have been furthering their skills to act out a play from a script. In 2/3/4 the students have been working on two plays titled “What sound” and “A place for more”.
