Term 2 Week 3 - 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
We have a busy few weeks at St Francis! Lots of visitors from TCE, Under 8s, Cross Country, Mothers' Day and Barefoot Bowls. With so much happening it's important to keep up to date! Make sure you have access to COMPASS as we communicate through this platform regularly.
Yesterday we held our first Catholic Identity Meeting for the year and it was wonderful to have our staff and parish join us. The main focus for this group this year is to assist us in restructuring our Mission, Vision and Values. It would be wonderful to see some parents jump on board and join us for these meetings as all stakeholders input is most valuable to this process.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to recognise our students that participated in the ANZAC Day March last Thursday. With heads held high and hearts full of respect, they marched alongside veterans and community members, honoring the sacrifices of those who have served our country with dignity and honor. Their demeanor was a testament to the values that define our school community. I'm very proud of our students, their performance and the way they carried themselves throughout the service.
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend and Festival of Outback Skies!

Prep/1 Happenings
This week in Mathematics year 1 have been focusing on counting groups of 10. They used bundles of paddle pop sticks to make groups of 10 and used those identified 10’s and 1’s. Prep has been looking at 2D shapes. They played a 2D shape game where they had to pull a 2D shape out of the bag and state if it’s a triangle or not a triangle.
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
Another busy week in 2/3/4 brought us some awesome Religion and Science. In Science, we learned about different facts about the Sun and made a poster using these facts. The facts help us better understand the Sun’s purpose in the Earth’s rotation. In Religion, we looked deeply in the Gospel of Luke and compared it to the Our Father prayer. We were able to make meaning of each line of the pray and think deeply about how we can use God’s word in our daily life. We also revised types of prayers and went on a Prayer Walk around the school, where students wrote a prayer for all the people in each room of our school.
Year 5/6 Happenings
This week in Religion the Year 5/6 students have been exploring the 10 Commandments and what they mean to us as individuals. We discussed that they're not just a list of rules; they're more like important guidelines for being good people in today's society. For example, "Don't steal" reminds us to be honest and respect others' belongings. "Don't lie about others" teaches us the importance of being truthful and kind with our words. These guidelines also encourage us to show love and respect to our friends and families and to take time to rest.
Have a look at our drawings of what we think the 10 Commandments might look like!
