Term 2 Week 1 - 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
Welcome back to Term 2! We have had a great start to the term and have been enjoying a busy week.
We held a FACE meeting yesterday and discussed our two fundraisers- Barefoot Bowls and Fete. Thank you to our parents that were able to make it and our parionshers that attended also. We are looking forward to these events this year! We also discussed doing some cooking on Monday Evenings at Touch prior to camp in order to top up our camp funds. The more money raised allows us to cover more of the camp costs. We will send a note home in the coming days for parent volunteers!
We have multiple students heading away this week for School Sport so we wish Adley, Maci and Beau all the best at their various sporting trials! We know they will make us very proud and look forward to hearing all about it once they return next week.
We also received news over the holidays that Sr Rita Grunke OLSH will be joining our Parish and moving to Hughenden in May to commence her role in pastoral capacity. We look forward to having Sr Rita here in Hughenden and St Francis and thank Bishop Timothy Harris for this opportunity!
We have a very busy term ahead and I'd like to encourage everyone to ensure they have access to COMPASS to keep up to date with all the latest news and notices.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Student Of The Week

Prep/1 Happenings
This week we have been looking at Chance and Data! We spun a colour wheel and counted how many times each colour on the wheel was chosen! The students had a great time and each had a turn at spinning the wheel.
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
In English this term, 2/3/4 students are focusing on Informative writing! To start off, we discussed the paragraph structure of an informative text. Aki and Morgan show you in their photo the anchor chart we made to help us remember this structure. Miss Allison read “Lizards” by Nic Bishop, a Mentor Text from our Trait Crate. Hayley and Bella are showing you this awesome text, where we discussed different facts about lizards. We then discussed how to be specific and accurate by using strong verbs in the worksheet Danica is showing. Finally, Miss Allison updated the Writer’s space, so that students can find facts in library books. Ashin is showing you how students are displaying facts they have found on the whiteboard table. Flynn in his photo is working on an activity where students are building their burger next to his factual paragraph. What a busy first week!
Year 5/6 Happenings
The Year 5/6 students have been exploring the concept of electricity and energy within Science. With sparks flying and minds buzzing, they've been uncovering the different types of electricity that surrounds us in our day to day lives. Students reflected on what the world would be like if we didn’t have electricity and the importance of turning off electrical appliances to ensure electricity isn’t wasted. We conducted an experiment in relation to static electricity. It's been a hair-raising adventure - check out our snapshots to see the sparks fly!

Specialist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
The year 5/6 students have been busy working on designing their own skateboard to reflect themselves and their interests. The students have used inspiration from artists which we have learnt about to complete this. Within all of the classes, this term we are moving to complete drama as our focus for our specialist art lessons. The students have been enjoying playing a range of drama skills and practising their improvisation and character skills.
