Term 1 Week 7 - 2024
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers and Community Members,
This week I've been at the principals conference in Townsville with the 29 other principals from around our diocese. We were very lucky to have Ms Pearce here in my absence and I have heard nothing but wonderful things about our students, staff and school! I am very blessed to be a part of such a wonderful school community here at St Francis. We thank Ms Pearce for spending the last few days with us and look forward to seeing her again throughout the year.
Next week is a busy one with the Midwest Trials for Netball, Touch and Rugby League in Julia Creek and NAPLAN! Our students have been doing plenty of preparation for both of these events. The 5/6 children have been learning about ball skills in PE and practicing Netball and Touch all while learning the rules. The 3s & 5s have also engaged in NAPLAN practice tests and our wonderful teachers have prepared them well for their upcoming tests next week. We wish them all luck for NAPLAN this year and know they will give it their absolute best!
We also have a wide variety of visitors next week. Our Guidance Councillor Brittany McGill, Curriculum Advisor Kate Seargent, Religion Advisor Lee-Ann Barton, Indigenous Education Advisor Kim McCosker and Education Consultant Kath Tartellin will all be popping in throughout the week and we look forward to their visits.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs Sharn Greenaway

Happy 10th Birthday to Lars, we hope you have a wonderful day!
Prep/1 Happenings
In Science Prep/1 have been learning all about living things, what they need to survive and their external features. Last week the students had a go at designing their own zoo that catered for all the things their animals would need to live. They also had to consider which animals could go together and which animals to keep separate from one another. This week the students got to physically construct their zoos using blocks and plastic animals. They worked in teams then presented their zoos to the class explaining their design choices. Our zoo looked amazing, check them out!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
2/3/4 have had a great week this week! At the end of last week, 2/3/4 showed you some amazing prayers in our Spotlight on assembly. Miss Allison was super proud of how the students confidently shared their prayers to the school. We also had a visit from the lovely Ms Pearce, who spoiled 2/3/4 with a cake in their Arts lesson. Finally, Year 3 students had a practice test of NAPLAN to familiarise themselves before the testing days next week.
Year 5/6 Happenings
This year in 5/6 we have been learning Italian as our language. We have explored where Italy is and some things about it - including that there are only 21 letters in the alphabet. We have learnt how to greet people, ask how they are as well as ask their name. Feel free to come along to assembly tomorrow morning at 8:30am to watch us perform our greetings we have learnt in Italian!

Library News
In the library this week we made a piano with fruit and veggies with our Makey Makey invention kits!
The children had a blast turning a banana and lemons into a working piano. It's wonderful to watch the enjoyment and engagement while developing their cricut skills. We may have some budding electrical engineers in the future.
Specialist Lessons- Miss Eriksen
We have continued to explore a range of different artists and the mediums they use to create their artworks. This week the students looked at Bob Ross. We had a lot of fun trying to follow along from his video to create our own artworks.
