Term 4 Week 6 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Carers, and Community Members,
As we wrap up another week at St. Francis Hughenden, our thoughts turn to the significance of Remembrance Day. This year, as Remembrance Day falls on Saturday, we would be honoured to have our students and their families join in the community commemorations at Hughenden Memorial Pool. Please refer to the email sent earlier this week for details on how to participate.
With Remembrance Day upon us, it’s a reminder that the year is swiftly drawing to a close. On this note, we eagerly anticipate the Year 6 Dinner on Tuesday, 14th November 2023. It’s a time to celebrate the journey of our students, and we are looking forward to marking this occasion as a community.
Additionally, preparations are in full swing for our Small Schools Swimming Carnival, an event that St. Francis is proud to host this year. An email went out earlier this morning, as we are seeking volunteers on the day to help us. Please refer to this email if you are able to lend a hand at all.
As the season of Advent approaches, please save the date for our End of Year Mass on Wednesday, 29th November 2023, at 9:00 am. The Mass will include the Rite of Passage ceremony and the presentation of the End of Year awards. It's a beautiful way to conclude our academic year and to bless our students as they step into the next phase of their journey.
Thank you for your continuous support and engagement. Wishing you all a peaceful and restorative weekend.
God Bless,
Mr. Scott Murray

Prep/1 Happenings
We are making our own fairytale books in P/1. This term we’ve been delving into the world of fairy tales in English. We have looked at all the elements that make a good narrative and now the students are using all those elements to make their own stories. Stay tuned for all the finished products!
Miss Brown,
Year 2/3/4 Happenings
2/3/4 students were visited by our year 1 friends this week during the kindy visit! Whilst Year 1 visited, we got to practice our Think Mentals. We also got to play a game of Knockout, that allowed us to practice recognising time on analogue clocks. Finally, we had some free writing time, where students created a variety of different texts. We hope to see you again soon, Year 1!
Year 5/6 Happenings
In Science this term we have been exploring solids, liquids and gases. We used these to investigate reversible and non-reversible changes. The students enjoyed blowing up a balloon from the chemical reaction of bicarb soda and vinegar.

As Remembrance Day is coming up this Saturday 11th November, this Friday afternoon during our Funky Friday we will be participating in a Remembrance Day activity called “Draw to Remember'' where we celebrate Remembrance Day through drawing. As a whole school we will draw images and write messages with chalk that symbolise Remembrance Day for us. We look forward to seeing all the wonderful drawings and messages that will be written.
