Term 4 Week 5 - 2023
From the Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
As we conclude another eventful week at St. Francis Catholic School Hughenden, I'd like to acknowledge the extraordinary circumstances that have touched our community. The resilience and diligence of our students, community members, and families, particularly those bravely addressing the bushfires in our region, have been commendable.
Our heartfelt thanks and prayers go out to those battling the blazes on their properties and beyond, safeguarding not only their own lands but also assisting neighbors in need. The magnitude of these fires and the immense efforts required to manage them have been sobering, and we hold all affected in our thoughts during this challenging time.
This week also marked the beginning of our preparatory transitions for the 2024 academic year. It's a pleasure to welcome new families to our community and to see siblings of current students enrolled for the coming year. We will soon initiate interviews with the families of prospective students to ensure a smooth transition into our school family.
For those whose journey at St. Francis Hughenden may conclude this year, please reach out to the school at your earliest convenience either via email at sfsh@tsv.catholic.edu.au or by phone at 07 4741 1382 to discuss your transition.
In health-related matters, it is important to reiterate the presence of some cases of gastrointestinal illnesses at our school. To prevent further spread, we urge parents to keep unwell children at home if they exhibit any symptoms of sickness.
Wishing everyone a restful and safe weekend. I am eager to meet and engage with you all in the coming week.
God Bless,
Mr. Scott Murray

Prep/1 Happenings
This week in Religion P/1 delved into the story of The Last Supper. Students listened to different accounts of the story, then created their own interpretation of it through drawing. They did an amazing job and have produced some fantastic drawings focusing on the details mentioned in the story.

In Maths, we are discussing measurement! This week, we are focusing on volume and capacity. We discussed the different units of measurement for measuring liquids. We also predicted the volume of odd shapes and found the answer with our measuring jugs. We then jumped on a quick game, to practise recognising intervals.
Year 5/6 Happenings
In Dance this term we have been exploring Just Dance. Through our Just Dance videos we have been able to identify how it uses the elements of dance - space, time, body, action and energy. The students have been applying these to create their own Just Dance routine.

At present a few of our local graziers are battling with controlling fires on their properties. Some of our wonderful students came up with an idea to help them out the best we can. So over the last few days these students have worked hard baking and preparing some tasty treats to send up to the hard working men & women fighting these fires. Thank you to these students for showing initiative in showing support to others.
